Summer is here and it feels fantastic! I have been able to decrease my time in the gym and do my cardio outdoors. I’ve replaced my stationary bike for cycling outside and I love it. I’ve also been adding more conditioning drills vs. machine cardio. I can do it at home, saving a little car time.
That leaves mostly weight training at the gym. Which means this month’s playlist is really more of a weight training focused list. Weight lifting has a tempo and rhythm much different than cardio. It would only make sense that my music selection for weight workouts would be different than cardio days.
I also thought I would be slightly indulgent and pull out some music from my “formative years” and dedicate this list to 80s metal. A bit cheesy at times, I know, yet most of these songs have just the right tempo to pace your weight workout. Enjoy these gems while you pump some iron.
- Breakout by Bon Jovi : This is from their very first record. Probably lesser known, but one of my favorites.
- Dance by Ratt : Round and Round is so over done, I enjoy this one much more.
- Poison by Alice Cooper : Really we have Alice to blame for a lot the 80s theatrics.
- The Ultimate Sin by Ozzy Osbourne : I love the whole send up of the TV show Dallas in this video. If you’ve never seen it, I highly suggest it.
- Too Young To Fall In Love by Mötley Crüe : It’s amazing how cheesy some of these 80s videos were. Another amusing video to check out.
- It’s Not Love by Dokken : This is one of those “I wonder what happened to them” bands.
- Heaven’s On Fire by KISS : I love KISS, always have, always will. I could make a whole playlist of just KISS songs.
- Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah) by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts : She is the most amazing performer. I’ve seen her countless times live. Check her out if she is in a town near you.
- Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard: This one actually plays at my gym on a regular basis. Go figure.
- Blueberry by Lita Ford : Former band mate of Joan Jett, did you know that?
