Why do we eat fast food? It doesn’t taste good. (Be honest with yourself, it doesn’t). But it is fast. It’s the easy solution we need in a busy day. We don’t have to think, cook or care. We just eat.
I don’t advocate packaged meals often. However, if there is something that can help my clients avoid the drive up and is just as easy I’ll gladly take it.
Right now that “something” is the GoPicnic
meal. Think of the GoPicnic meal as a healthier version of the snack packs they serve on airplanes. One client called them “Lunchables for Grown Ups”. No matter what you call them, I find them to be a great alternative to the fast food lunch. Each GoPicnic meal is under 500 calories, has a protein source (either plant based or animal based) and many of the options are gluten free. They are shelf stable and, for a packaged meal, they don’t have outrageous amounts of sodium. No utensils or heating are required. Thus, they are perfect to keep in your desk, backpack or lap top bag.
After seeing the GoPicnic meals in various places, I decided to pick up a couple of them to try on a day when I had a lot of errands or I ran out of leftovers. What actually happened was I tried them the next day when the power went out just minutes before dinnertime.
While my husband made a sandwich, I pulled out the black bean and plantain chip meal. By candlelight, I inspected each element of the meal:
- Black bean dip
- Plantain chips
- Edamame and nut mix
- Dried ginger mix
- Small piece of dark chocolate.
Even dessert at just 360 calories! And it was tasty. The plantain chips were a fantastic alternative to corn chips or crackers. Of course, I loved the edamame and seed mix. Edamame is one of my favorite on the go snacks, adding the sunflower seeds was a bonus. The dark chocolate made it all feel very special.
Since then I’ve been recommending GoPicnic to all of my clients. Everyone needs an easy button now and again. Especially if it’s a healthy one. Have you tried GoPicnic? What’s your favorite combo?
