The days are getting very short. The mornings are getting very chilly. We are right in the middle of autumn, moving full speed ahead to winter.
I do not like winter weather. In the fall, I can make due. While I don’t like the fact that is dark when I leave the studio in the evening, I don’t mind so much that it’s still dark when I get up. I have a somewhat flexible schedule so when it’s too cold to run in the morning, I can run on a sunny fall afternoon. But winter’s short and cool days make just want to hang out inside and drink a lot of hot tea.
My mood changes. With that, my musical tastes shift a bit as well. My music gets a bit darker, a bit heavier. Hopefully this workout playlist won’t weigh you down too much as you take off for a run or stay warm creating your own heat in the weight room.
- Dead Leaves and Dirty Ground by the White Stripes: A good pace to get shuffling at the beginning of a run.
- November Rain by Guns n Roses: Great power song!
- Frozen by Madonna: High energy but haunting.
- Hazy Shade of Winter by the Bangles: I watched Less than Zero at an age I probably should not have been allowed too. Anyone else?
- Immigrant Song by Led Zepplin: Thankfully, I do not live in the land of ice and snow.
- Supermassive Black Hole by Muse: Waking up at 5 a.m. right now feels like I am in the middle of a black hole.
- Rain by the Cult: It often reminds me of warm summer rain, but it can also be for the gray autumn rain.
- Bloodletting by Concrete Blonde: It’s subtitled the Vampire Song. Too bad we missed Halloween.
- Autumn Sweater by Yo Lo Tengo: It’s got a nice groove for weights or running.
- Back to Black by Amy Winehouse: The days are short. I prefer to run in the sun but I may have to change my ways if I am going to keep running this winter.
